The church with its bottom down in the Arno river

The San Jacopo Saoprarno Church dates bak to 10-11th centuries and was transformed into a cathilic-orthodox church in 2006.  Since the Middle Ages Florentine people nicknamed it “Chiesa col culo in Arno”, literally the Church with its bottom down in the Arno; the names comes from the peculiar structure of the apse’s basement that stand directly on the bank river, so that when the Arno is high it looks like the apse built in the river.
