Guided Tour of Florence Baptistery, the Cathedral, and the Duomo Museum
This tour is designed to discover all the sight of the Duomo area. We will guide you through all the buildings that form this complex: the Baptistery, the Cathedral, and the Opera del Duomo Museum.
First, we will visit St. John’s Baptistery, the oldest building of the complex, with its three magnificent doors, the one by Andrea Pisano, which dates back to 1340, and the two by Lorenzo Ghiberti, including the famous Gates of Paradise. You will also admire Giotto’s Bell Tower, with its polychrome marbles and geometric shapes, in perfect harmony with the Cathedral. Then admire St. Mary of the Flower Cathedral from the outside, on the top of which towers the majestic dome engineered by the greatest Renaissance architect Filippo Brunelleschi with its splendid frescoes by Giorgio Vasari and his workshop.
You will have 15 minutes on your own to take pictures and move to the main entrance of the Opera del Duomo Museum. The museum is the anchor for what is known as Il Grande Museo del Duomo, it now contains over 750 marble, bronze and silver sculptures, and reliefs, including works such as Michelangelo's famous Pietà, Donatello’s Magdalene, the reconstructed façade by Arnolfo di Cambio and the original bronze doors by Lorenzo Ghiberti.
