Visit the Rose Garden in Florence

The Giardino delle Rose takes its name from the large collection of roses. Inside the garden there are about 1000 varieties of roses and other plants, including 350 species of old roses.

The story of the Rose Garden

The Rose Garden is located right underneath Piazzale Michelangelo, in viale Poggi. It covers about 1 acre divided into terraces that offer quite an unique view of Florence.

It was commissioned in 1865 by Florence Municipality to architect Giuseppe Poggi, who was in charge to transform the Renaissance Florence into the Capital of Italy.  The garden was designed following the French style and opened to the public in 1895.
